Full course description
The skill of reflective practice is critical for health care providers who want to be more effective in helping their patients. While recognizing the importance of reflective practice, many medical educators have struggled with how to effectively help learners develop this skill.
This module provides medical educators with tools for promoting reflection in their learners. After addressing the challenges of promoting reflection, we will practice promoting reflection in learners both during the hustle and bustle of a busy clinical setting as well as in the quieter moments of reading their reflective writings.
Target Audience: The module is appropriate for portfolio coaches and other medical faculty who would like to help their trainees develop their abilities to reflect on their practice of medicine.
Participants who complete this module will be able to:
- List strategies for overcoming learner resistance to practicing reflection.
- Describe methods of promoting reflection in action.
- Describe a method for teaching reflection on action (critical reflection).
