Course

Health Literacy - Nuts and Bolts of Patient Adherence

Self-paced

$30 Enroll

Full course description

This module will identify major barriers and issues to adherence with self-management of chronic disease. Participants will learn about the differences between compliance, adherence, and therapeutic alliance. To understand how to help increase a patient's adherence, one must first learn how to identify and measure non-adherence and know the extent and consequences of non-adherence in health care. Individual factors influencing patient adherence, as well as the societal, economic, provider, and health systems barriers and strategies to promote adherence will be addressed.

You might want to complete the Just What the Doctor Ordered: Improving Patient Adherence Through Engagement module and Strategies for Improving Patient Engagement and Health Outcomes after this module to learn how to apply strategies to increase patients' adherence to treatments.

For the best educational benefit this module should be completed before the Just What The Doctor Ordered: Improving Patient Adherence Through Engagement module.

This project was funded in part by a grant from the Ohio Partnership for Adherence through Collaborative Education (OhioPACE).
