Health Literacy - Strategies for Improving Patient Engagement and Health Outcomes
Self-paced
Full course description
Before starting this module, we recommend you first complete the companion module, Just What the Doctor Ordered: Improving Patient Adherence Through Engagement, for insight into patient empowerment, self-management, readiness to change, goal setting, and much more.
This module, and Just What the Doctor Ordered: Improving Patient Adherence Through Engagement, share the theme of “patient engagement” as a central part of patient-centered care. Employing strategies to better engage patients and involve them more fully in making decisions about their care, helps achieve improved health outcomes, better patient care, and lower costs. In this module you will learn how to use the strategies and communication techniques inherent in Motivational Interviewing, Patient Activation, and Health Coaching, which provide an environment that facilitates engagement.
This project was funded in part by a grant from the Ohio Partnership for Adherence through Collaborative Education (OhioPACE)
