Full course description
This module will help you become familiar with the many influences and changes that can affect one's ability to process and navigate health information in the later years. The changes encompass physical, psychological and cognitive changes, as well as social and cultural changes. Throughout the lessons health practitioners are offered insight into who the older adult learner is and strategies for addressing the health literacy needs of the older population.
Objectives:
Participants who complete this module will be able to:
- Describe the aging process and how it affects learning.
- Define the scope of the health literacy problem among older adults.
- Identify traits of the older adult learner and implications for teaching.
- Identify potential barriers to teaching older adults and strategies to reduce these barriers and facilitate learning.
